An investigation dubbed Huawei-gate is underway regarding allegations of bribery involving members of the European Parliament and staff by the Chinese telecom giant Huawei. Around a hundred agents conducted searches across Belgium and Portugal, focusing on the Brussels Capital Region, seizing documents and questioning individuals, including lobbyists linked to the company.The inquiry, which has revealed regular and discreet corruption since 2021, centers on Valerio Ottati, Huawei's public relations director for EU relations. Allegations include MPs receiving gifts and benefits to secure favorable political positions, with potential future searches of EU parliamentarians pending the lifting of their parliamentary immunity.
